Sinner Tops Turin, Alcaraz Finishes as Year-End No. 1
17 November 2025

Jannik Sinner successfully defended his title at the Nitto ATP Finals in his home country, but Sinner was not the only one who walked away with a win. For the second time in his career, Carlos Alcaraz concluded his 2025 season as the year-end No. 1 after winning all three of his round-robin matches. The last time he finished No.1 was in 2022 as a 19-year-old.
It was the sixth final in 2025 between the two rivals or more familiarly dubbed as “Sincaraz.” Alcaraz led the head-to-head four to two, but Sinner was able to grab his third win against the Spainard in straight sets, 7-6(4), 7-5.
"It was an incredible season," said Sinner. "To finish it this way, before my Italian fans, is very special for me."
With this win, Sinner extended his indoor hard court win streak to 31. He also did not drop a set the entirety of the tournament. He added to his collection in titles that included the Australian Open and Wimbledon.
For Alcaraz, not only did he finish at the top of the rankings, but he also won his most number of titles in a season at eight, including titles at the French Open and US Open.
In his runner-up speech, he said, “I am really happy with the level I played today. He [Sinner] is someone who has not lost a match on an indoor court for two years now, so that means how great a player you are. You come back even stronger after every loss, you don’t have many. A well-deserved final.”
En route to the final, Alcaraz defeated Alex De Minaur, Lorenzo Musetti and Taylor Fritz from his group and Felix Auger-Aliassime in the semifinals. In Sinner's group, he defeated Auger-Aliassime, Alexander Zverev and Ben Shelton and De Minaur in the semifinals.
Every single Grand Slam final featured the two of them this year. They also met in two ATP Masters 1000 finals in Rome and in Cincinnati. Ahead of the Italian Open, Sinner was on a 26-match win streak, and it was their first matchup of the year. Alcaraz earned that win after losing to Sinner in the 2024 finals of Beijing, which initially started Sinner’s match win streak.
In the men’s doubles final, three of the four players featured in the championship were Brits. Ultimately, the duo of Henry Patten and Harri Heliövaara defeated Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski. It was their second biggest title of their 2025 season, behind winning the Australian Open title at the beginning of the year.
