To kick off the final day of the Giorgio Armani Tennis Classic, World No. 56 Luciano Darderi beat World No. 85 Marin Čilić, winning 7-6 (4) and 7-6 (3).
The second match saw an exciting game between World No. 53 Tomás Martín Etcheverry who beat World No. 10 and American powerhouse Ben Shelton.
Top ATP tennis players graced the Hurlingham courts across five days, from 24th to 28th June, including Olympic Gold medallist and 24-Grand Slam singles titles record holder Novak Djokovic who played an incredibly close match against World No. 19 Karen Khachanov.
Etcheverry, who play at the Hurlingham twice this week said: “I’m super happy to be here again, it’s been an amazing couple of days and I’m feeling in good rhythm and feeling confident for Wimbledon. Thanks all for having us.”
When asked how his day’s been, Shelton: “It has been great. Happy to be here, thanks for having us at this beautiful club and amazing court. There are not many grass courts of this quality in the world and it was an honour to come play in front of you guys and hope you enjoyed the tennis today and this whole week. I know it’s kind of a tradition to play this exhibition before Wimbledon so just happy I can finally be a part of it and hopefully I can come back in the years to come and hope some of you guys come to Wimbledon as well, l and I’m really excited to get the tournament started.
Asked on if he’s excited to be top ten in the world: “It’s a team effort and it’s been a lot of fun travelling around the world with my family and friends which is a different lifestyle. I probably didn’t think I’d be here in the few years I’ve been on tour so to be playing so many high-quality matches across the world such as guys like Tommy (Thomas Etcheverry) where there’s so many different game styles. It’s a lot of fun, it’s a challenge, it’s a really difficult sport, one of the hardest in the world because of how much we travel but I’m really happy to be in London right now.
In addition to the ATP players, tennis legends who took to the court included crowd favourite Mansour Bahrami, Davis Cup winner Mark Philippoussis, three masters winner Thomas Enqvist and 27 ATP Tour singles title holder David Ferrer.
Tournament Director, Nikhil Waugh said: "This year’s event has been nothing short of spectacular. Over the past five days, we've witnessed an extraordinary level of talent on court – from rising stars making their mark to seasoned champions returning with timeless brilliance.”
